The thesis of the article is that the first class of the day, which is usually before 8am, is a waste of time. The evidences or premises that the author uses to reach this conclusion are that adolescents can’t fall asleep before 11pm and can’t wake up before 8am because of the producing of melatonin. Kalish also give examples of school that have already adopted a new schedule so the first class would be 8:30am and have great grades.
I believe that school should start
only 9am since kids are really tired at 7am. In my school some of them don’t
even show up at the first class, and the ones that come are so tired that they
don’t even pay attention.
